Our first “Vintage” meeting over last weekend attracted a respectable turnout of old yachts particularly on the Saturday. With weather conditions perfect for sailing the day proved most enjoyable and a great success. Sunday was to prove more challenging, but the high winds of early morning abated during the course of the day and the opportunity to indulge in some impromptu racing was irresistible with both vintage and modern 36” Restricted boats competing.
Two new 36” vane boats joined the Llandudno fleet over the course of the weekend: Alan Bell’s winter project “Koorah”, a Taxashun, came to fruition early enough to compete at Fleetwood a week or two ago and looked very able on its first outing at Llandudno in Alan’s experienced hands, whilst Michael Smee’s Gheko by Mike Dann exhibited an astonishing turn of speed both downwind and on the beat and will be one to watch for the future.
Guests at the meeting included Elizabeth and Gareth Jones from East Yorkshire with a variety of old boats restored by Elizabeth, and Graham Kellock from the Colwyn Bay M.B.C. with “Sprite”, a 10 Rater built by Graham’s uncle in 1936 now converted to radio
